Project usage report will be removed from the Microsoft 365 admin center

Microsoft is retiring the Project usage report in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
The Project usage report is currently part of the usage reports in the Microsoft 365 admin center and shows how many people were active in the Project desktop client, Project Online, and Project for the web. Because Project Online and Project for the web have been retired, Microsoft no longer considers the report necessary and is removing it.

This change does not affect users' daily work or the Project desktop client's support lifecycle. The retirement affects the reporting side, for example, for report admins, billing admins, and license managers.

Project usage report will be removed

Microsoft recommends using the Planner usage report, introduced in September.

From a practical point of view, the Planner usage report is clearly not an alternative to the Project usage report if your team needs to review whether colleagues still use their expensive Planner Premium licenses (Planner Plan 1 and Planner and Project Plan 3).

  • Admins should save the Project usage data before 20 November 2026.
  • The Project usage report will no longer be available, and its historical data will no longer be accessible. The report will be removed starting 4 December 2026.
