Retirement of PDF Audio Overviews in the Copilot mobile app

Microsoft is retiring Audio Overviews for PDFs in the Copilot mobile app, a feature that turns a PDF into a podcast-style audio summary.

Timeline

The retirement is planned for 30 October 2026.

How does this affect your users?

Audio Overviews let Copilot Premium users turn a PDF into an AI-generated, two-person, podcast-style audio overview. Users open the document in the app and select the headphone icon.

The feature was designed to help users get the gist of lengthy documents without reading every page, especially when they wanted to listen hands-free. Copilot Basic users could not access it.

Audio Overviews for PDFs will be retired

After the retirement, users no longer see the option to create an Audio Overview when they view a PDF in the Copilot app. Audio Overviews generated earlier are no longer available for playback.
Users who want to keep the key points from a document should note them down or save a summary in another way before the retirement date. Users who still need a quick understanding of a long PDF can continue to open and read the file in the app as usual.
