Microsoft is rolling out a Task history in all Planner Basic plans, a new way for teams to stay up to date on what has happened with a task.
Users can open a task and see its recent activity, including what changed and when it changed. Instead of asking colleagues what was updated or trying to remember when a due date, assignment, or status was adjusted, users can check the history directly in the task.
This matters most for tasks that several people work on. Everyone involved can follow how a task has progressed over time, quickly spot recent changes, and avoid misunderstandings about who changed what. It also makes it easier to pick up a task that someone else has been working on, because the full story is right there.
Look for the small pencil icon in the top right corner of a task to open the history. Click an entry to focus on the change. There is no documentation about this feature yet, so it's unclear how long the history is kept and which changes are recorded.
Note:
Task history is currently rolling out. If you don’t find the pencil icon yet, be patient.

Microsoft introduced a similar feature in July 2024 for Premium plans, but only for users with Project Plan 3. Task history is now part of all Planner plans. The new task history may differ from the 2024 feature because of recent Planner changes.
