Teams no longer included in new Enterprise licenses from April 2024

As is well known, Microsoft removed Teams from many licenses for organizations in the European Economic Area (EEA) on October 1, 2023. Teams must be purchased as an additional license for new Enterprise licenses. Organizations outside the European Economic Area have not yet been affected.

In a current licensing post, Microsoft informs that this will change worldwide, with immediate effect from April for newly ordered Enterprise licenses. Microsoft refers to the changes already implemented in the EEA region.

Globally consistent licensing helps ensure clarity for customers and streamline decision making and negotiations. To that end, we are now updating the way Microsoft 365, Office 365, and Teams are licensed outside of Europe in keeping with the recent changes in the EEA.
With today’s introduction of the new commercial lineup outside the EEA and Switzerland, Office 365 E1, Office 365 E3, Office 365 E5, Microsoft 365 E3, and Microsoft 365 E5 suites with Teams will no longer be available to new subscribers, worldwide.

Microsoft is lowering the price for existing licenses, but an additional purchase of Teams is now required. As known from the EEA regions, Enterprise licenses, in combination with the Teams license, will be more expensive than before.

Only newly ordered Enterprise licenses are affected. It does not (yet) apply to renewals or quantity adjustments.
For Frontline and Business licenses, you can now order a license without Teams and the old license with Teams. It’s the same compared to the EEA licenses. The license without Teams is slightly cheaper.

A table summarizes the changes.
