The "Create or upload" button moves to the right side in OneDrive for the web

OneDrive for the web users will soon notice the “Create or upload” button has moved.
Until now, it has been in the left navigation pane.

With this update, the button moves to the right side of the page, which matches the way it already works in SharePoint document libraries. Microsoft introduced this UX update for SharePoint document libraries in November 2025.

Anyone who regularly switches between OneDrive and SharePoint should find the updated experience more familiar and consistent.

Along with the new position, the “Create or upload” button will no longer appear in Libraries, Recycle Bin, Meetings, or Media. In those areas, users will no longer see the button on the page, and they can use the main OneDrive view to create or upload new items.

The options themselves stay exactly as they are today, so users can still create new files and folders or upload content in the same way as before. Only the location of the button changes, not what it can do.

This change applies to all OneDrive for Business users. The button will simply appear in its new place the next time they open OneDrive in their browser after the update reaches them.
The rollout has already started and should be completed by December 2026. Some users may see the change before others in the organization.
